What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy advocates the healing power of nature. In simple terms, this means that as long as we eat nutritious foods that are appropriate to our constitution; get enough rest and sleep; exercise according to our constitution and age; minimise the uptake of toxins from air, food and water; and live a happy and fulfilled life – we are likely to remain healthy and ward off sicknesses easily. As it is difficult to meet these criteria in modern society, disease occurs more easily.

The role of the naturopath is to stimulate the individual’s ability for healing by offering advice on diet and lifestyle. Naturopaths treat holistically, taking into account the unique combination of factors that contribute to ill-health, and work with their patients to develop a personalised treatment strategy that works best for them. The aim is not only to restore health but to foster a sense of vitality.

Dietary advice: Eating foods appropriate to both our constitution and the seasons is the single most important action we can take to keep healthy. Food can be medicine, or it can make us feel unwell. Eating the right foods and preparing them in the correct way can avert disease and relieve symptoms, including high blood pressure, diabetes, migraines, mood swings and skin disorders. I offer practical dietary advice to my clients so that they can maintain the benefits of my treatments. Occasionally, I also recommend supplements.

Bach Flower Remedies: Discovered by Dr Edward Bach in the 1930s, Bach Flower Remedies are prepared by picking flowers at the height of their blossom and placing them on the surface of a glass bowl filled with pure spring water. Exposed to sunlight, the information gets inscribed from the flowers into the water. Dr Bach identified 38 types of flowers that help resolve constitutional, chronic or acute emotional imbalances that prevent us from living our lives to the fullest.

Chinese energetics: Chinese energetics are one of the oldest systems of healing in the world. They include the practice of acupuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping, gua sha and dietary therapy. Together, these methods help resolve blockages and restore health, resulting in a greater sense of wellbeing. Find out more.
