Chinese energetics

Naturopath and practitioner of Chinese energetics with over ten years of clinical experience, I see clients with a wide range of concerns including stress and anxiety, insomnia, musculoskeletal pain, headaches, fertility and digestive disorders.

My approach is empathic, professional and practical. I work holistically, taking into account the many factors that contribute to ill-health, and work with my clients to develop personalised strategies that work best for them. I regularly offer dietary and lifestyle advice to support my clients.

I hold Diplomas in Acupuncture and Naturopathy from the College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM), London. In addition, I have undertaken extensive postgraduate training in Chinese energetics, including dietary therapy, fertility, musculoskeletal pain, emotional imbalances, and pulse diagnosis.

I am a certified Clinical Supervisor and the former CNM acupuncture course director.

Ancient wisdom for modern times

Chinese energetics has been practiced for over three thousand years. Its methods include acupuncture, herbal medicine, tuina (medical massage), qigong, and dietary therapy.

Chinese energetics advocates the healing power of nature: as long as we eat nutritious foods appropriate to our constitution; rest, sleep and exercise according to our constitution and age; minimise the uptake of toxins from air, food and water; and live a meaningful life – we are more likely to remain healthy and ward off sicknesses easily.

The role of the practitioner is to stimulate the individual’s ability for healing by offering advice on diet and lifestyle, taking into account the factors that contribute to ill-health. The aim is not only to restore health but to foster a sense of purpose and vitality.

Chinese energetics: The methods

Acupuncture and acupressure

Acupuncture and acupressure harmonise the flow of Qi (vital energy) in the body. They activate a number of biochemical processes that are conducive to healing, such as increased blood flow, the release of endorphins or the removal of metabolic waste products. Acupressure and acupuncture help resolve blockages and restore balance, resulting in a greater sense of wellbeing.

Moxibustion,
cupping and gua sha

Moxibustioncupping and gua sha  are techniques that can be used on their own or added to acupuncture and acupressure. Moxibustion involves the burning of the herb mugwort (artemisia) and has a deeply warming, nourishing, grounding and relaxing effect. Cupping and gua sha release muscle tension, stimulate blood flow and to disperse cold or heat trapped in the body..

Dietary advice

Dietary advice: Eating foods appropriate to our constitution and the seasons, and staying hydrated, are among the most important actions that we can take to remain healthy. A healthy diet can mitigate and sometimes event prevent many health concerns such as high blood pressure, diabetes, migraines, eczema or mood swings. I regularly offer practical dietary advice to my clients so that they can take responsibility for improving their health.

Restoring the balance of body and mind

Chinese energetics does not treat medical labels – it looks at the whole person! Common imbalances seen in clinic include:

Stress, anxiety and insomnia.

Digestive issues: overweight / diarrhoea / constipation / bloating / IBS / reflux.

Muscle and joint pain / sciatica / headaches / migraines / fibromyalgia.

Fertility and IVF / amenorrhea / dysmenorrhea / supporting during menopause
